Biography
Tim Welvaars (1951, Amsterdam/Holland)
Tim started his music career as a piano-entertainer in Amsterdam, Nice (France) and Tel Aviv (Israel). In 1986 he graduated as a saxophonist at the Hilversum Jazz Conservatory (Holland).
Trough one of his teachers, the famous arranger Jerry van Rooyen, Tim had the honor of receiving an invitation from Toots Thielemans(1988) for a masterclass at his place in Belgium. From that moment on, Toots became his musical Guru and main source of inspiration.
Tim won many music-awards all over the world, a.o. The Henny Huisman Soundmix-TVshow (1996) and the World championship of Performing Arts (Hollywood/California) in 2003, as a Jazz harmonica-player as well as a composer.
Tim has been featured on 24 CD's as a soloist and was a guest-star on many CD-recordings worldwide: New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Tel Aviv, Nice, Amsterdam etc.
Playing/recording with a.o. Toots Thielemans, Stevie Wonder, Ray Brown, Kenny Burrel, Lee Ritenauer, Ricky Lawson, Roy Hargrove, Earl Palmer, The London Symphonic Orchestra, the Dutch Metropole Orchestra, Bert v.d.Brink, Hein v.d. Geijn, Jan Akkerman and many others.
One of the highlights in Tim's career was the performance at the event of Toots' 75th birthday in Brussels/Belgium (1997), where Tim played "The Point of no return" specially composed for this occasion.
One of his recent CD's is called Intimacy, containing 12 intimate songs of which 6 originals, featuring Bert van den Brink (pi) Josee Koning (voc), Hein v.d. Geijn (base) and Eddie C. (percussion).The liner notes were written by maestro Toots Thielemans.
In 2012 Tim recorded the album Harmonica-Holic II with eleven original songs, playing jazz-harmonica, piano and tenor saxophone. On this album, Tim is very proud to do a first professional recording with his son, Koen (bass guitar).
Official Endorsement deQuelery - Holland
From 2016 Tim is the official endorser for deQuelery - Holland. They produced a super Chromatic Harmonica with the name "Goldsnabel", an unbreakeble and wonderful loud and warm sounding harmonica totally made out of Messing, a mix of Copper and Zink. On the May 3th 2013 it was exactly 25 years ago that Tim met Toots Thielemans at his residence in Brussels for a masterclass jazz harmonica. Tim honoures his maestro Toots playing his masterpiece ‘Bluesette’ in a funky arrangement. You can watch this film ‘25 Years Toots and Tim’ on Youtube.
